The Policy Context for Responsible Investment: a public-private sector workshop

Date: 7 November 2008 Location: Geneva Venue: Palais des Nations, Room XXV Description: UNCTAD and the PRI will host a unique public-private sector workshop to explore how the investment community and policy-makers can work together to further common goals. Investors alone can only go so far in encouraging responsible corporate practices. At some point, public policy is required to address externalities in the economy, to the benefit of investors and society at large. It is important that investors recognize that they work within a public policy framework which is dynamic, and to which they can contribute new ideas. Similarly, policy makers increasingly recognize the important role investors can play in encouraging good corporate practices, and the various ways the policy community can promote responsible investment as a policy tool for promoting good performance on environmental, social and governance issues.
