The 2°C target envisions a tolerable degree of global warming, but the world is still struggling to agree on concrete and binding emission reductions. Business anticipates a fundamental shift in paradigms driven by both climate change mitigation measures and resource scarcity. The term “low-carbon economy” is the proxy for this new paradigm. Reducing carbon intensity already makes good business and economic sense: * The Stern Report calculated that the benefits of strong, early action on climate change considerably outweigh the costs. * A McKinsey study revealed that many climate mitigation measures are in fact cost negative, and investments will be recovered through long-term energy savings. * Customer demand for low-carbon products and services will continue to grow. More…

As usual in all tough situations, there are lessons to be learnt and opportunities to be capitalized upon. Now that the worst of the financial crisis is over, IMD’s Forum for Corporate Sustainability Management is keen to glean some valuable lessons from recent events. CSM is a membership platform for research and learning in the area of corporate sustainability management www.imd.ch/csm . With this event, CSM opens its forum to invite non-member companies also to share their experiences so that all companies can move towards “getting stuff done” in the area of corporate sustainability management. CSM will bring its latest research learnings to the table, but will also invite a number of IMD faculty to bring their research in strategy, organizational development, innovation and so on, to bear on the challenges of corporate sustainability management. CSM’s forum are highly interactive and constructive in terms of helping you with your individual challenges. You will even get an opportunity, to table your most challenging strategic issue in this area and have a diversity of managers discuss it with you. More…

The EVPA annual conference is THE event of the year in venture philanthropy where leading experts in the field discuss the development of the industry and meet their peers across Europe. Some venture philanthropists started off providing grants to nonprofit organizations - albeit in an engaged manner. Others supported social enterprises through tailored financing. Many have realized that they share the overall aim of building stronger organizations that can better achieve social impact.
